POLITICAL PERSECUTION
The persecution of members of
the Rastafari movement, a group that flourished in Jamaica in the early 1930s
and who worship Haile Selassie I as ''Christ in the character of King of
Kings'', has been continuous from its origins to the present day. The major cause
of persecution today is the spiritual use of cannabis, which is illegal in most
countries of the world
UNEMPLOYMENT
The unemployment rate soared to
12.6% in July 2020, and while some improvement was seen in October 2020 when it
declined to 10.7%, unemployment remained well above the 7.2% recorded in
October 2019.
